On “Sick of the Suck,” the opening track of Frankie Tillo’s self-titled EP, Tillo croons “I’m not sure how we happened…” The sentiment is appropriate, given that, musically, Tillo’s sound is most clearly defined by its reluctance to stick to single genre. Surf Rock, Jangle Pop, Lo-Fi and many other styles can be found in Tillo’s music. But it’s the oscillation between them (often over the course of a single song) that makes the songs interesting, and which makes the four tracks on Tillo’s EP feel bigger, more complete, more assured than an EP should feel.
Somewhere between Elliott Smith, Paul Simon and the DIY punk scene that’s formed over the last twenty years-that’s where you’ll find Frankie Tillo’s music. An EP of 4 songs is set to release in May 2020 via Earth Libraries
