Oily James is the moniker for Ollie James Sandberg, a UK born songwriter based on the unceded lands of the Lekwungen speaking nations.
Oily James explores wherever his mind takes him, whether that is looping lofi jams, or creating ambient soundscapes, or even trying to cover that obscure record you find. There are lessons in each project that help shape his next endeavor of expression — continuing to learn and create is his goal, and building community is the reward.
With four eclectic releases under his Oily belt, he has been likened to the quirky sounds of Connan Mockasin, and the eccentric b-sides of Mac DeMarco. Oily James is Sandberg’s musical reaction to the ever-changing nature of his and our existence.
In 2024, he is set to release his fifth project titled “Head Phone Music” with independent label Earth Libraries. Continuing with his evolving warbly style, this EP touches on Oily’s method of making music in a limited space and his love for cold water.
