Neighbourly's Italian Disco EP "Alla Discoteca"

Maybe it’s space age bachelor pad music. Or just interplanetary krautrock, with a lemon twist of Italian disco, by way of Vancouver. It’s hard to say. But whatever it is, it’s magical. And the type of music that can transport you to a distant coast— preferably on a steamy island somewhere— where the beats are Balearic, the wistful melodies a soft whisper in your ear beckoning to the dance floor, and the vibe a pulsing mirror ball for your soul. Which may be just what the doctor ordered in this day of acrimony and strife and a compliment to these Canadian’s vision for a truly transcontinental sound.

Equal parts funky Stereolab, late-70’s Can, and early-era Fujiya & Miyagi— with a nod to the international avant-pop of Altin Gün, Air and Charlotte Adigéry— Alla Discoteca is postmodern world music for the 21st century, and quite possibly the soundtrack to the best summer of your life. Which is saying something given our current climate of constant existential crisis. And just the mood in general. Who wouldn't want to escape to a foreign land with just a set of headphones and a banging EP?

So, take a sip, shake your hips, and let Neighbourly do the rest, as we set sail for the heart of the Mediterranean-- or maybe just a boombox party in your mind?-- with this smooth sonic elixir leading the way.

It will cure what ails you like a poolside Campari and tonic at the end of the world.
